Moments

Traditional Art

Oil Painting

Date

March 2024

In Moments, I wanted to display pictures of humanity. You’ll see a lot of faces and a lot of variety. I wanted to emphasize unique features in everyone and convey a personality. The main goal though was to take a screenshot of a wider context. In each painting is a story. Each painting has its own emotion; its own memory. Many of the photos I used as references I took myself and so they mean something much more to me. Most of all I wanted to highlight the complexities of life. Fond memories are just as numerous as our dark days but all our experiences come together to form us as an individual person

Why this?

It’s simple. This is the kind of creating that I love to do. Drawing people is what got me into the art world in the first place.

I came into college having a true love and passion for creating. It was what made me love life and it was invigorating to challenge myself with a new style or medium. Since then, things have changed. I’ve seen that passion fade. This past year especially, my enthusiasm has been at an all time low. I worked in a marketing team doing a lot of graphic design work over the summer. I have been creating logos and branding for clients. I have had to really zone into my senior level classes. I have managed my time to work on a mural every week even if I didn’t want to. These are not problems at all; in fact this is just life. You can’t always do what you want, especially in a world where you need money to survive. I didn’t hate the work I was doing. I was grateful for it. But even still, I began to hate art. It had become my job and my homework when it used to be my escape from that. I believe this experience is quite common for art students.
I want to prove to myself and to other art students that even if you have fallen out of love with your passion you can still reignite it.
